Lilit Poghosyan and Elen Tiraturyan participated in Iran Fajr International Challenge 2022. Being the fourth one for Poghosyan, the tournament has been a succesful one for the Armenian team so far. This was the first appearance in an elite level tournament for our young talent Tiraturyan.
Organized in the city of Shiraz, Iran, the tournament took place on February 7-11 and hosted more than 110 players, who competed in four categories. Mixed doubles is not part of the event.
After a two-year break from badminton because of an achilles injury, Poghosyan came back to play her first international tournament, the last one being in 2019. It was too tough a task for her as she faced India's Tasnim Mir, the current no. 1 in the BWF World Junior Ranking list and who went on to become the women's singles champion of the tournament.
Tiraturyan faced India's Meghana Reddy Mareddy in the first round, losing in two sets. It was a good experience for the 16-year-old to perform at this level and definitely something to help her improve in the future.
In the women's doubles, Poghosyan pairing with Tiraturyan fought hard to claim their first win in their debut in the women's doubles. Unfortunately, that was not to be at this edition of the tournament. Our pair lost to Mobina Nedaei/Ferdous Foroughi 21-17, 21-14 in a 33-minute match.
